Not as sturdy as I expected September 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased this product and shipped to a friend in Houston (I live outside of the US). He never checked the package when it arrived at his house, so when I got to his place, it was the first time either of us were looking at it.
Never got to really test the case, since it arrived in shambles. Did not have the time to contact the seller and get it replaced, since my flight out was in the morning, and I needed something to transport my PS3 ASAP. So I cannot comment on the service of the seller, I just cut my losses and ended up buying a backpack case from Best Buy.
What was surprising to me was exactly how flimsy the case it. The finish makes it look pretty sturdy, but in reality, it's just an illusion. The panels appear to be just like compressed wooden chips, very flimsy, and unable to take any abuse at all. The partitions within the case are the same, and they are all secured with small nails and tiny slots where the carpeting is missing to allow sliding in.
If you are looking for something that can simply fit and transport you system, then this may do the job. However, if you want a case that is sturdy enough to stand-alone, this is not the best bet. I didn't expect the case to be able to handle the demands of being checked luggage - that would be asking a lot - but I at least hoped that it would provide some security to the PS3 from small knocks when walking with same in hand - similar to a briefcase maybe.
If I wanted something to transport the system that would require me to keep it close to my body and have to shield from ANY possible impact (such as simply bumping into someone walking), then I would have gotten the backpack in the first place. Maybe it's just my personal opinion, but this product did not live up to my expectations of what was advertised.
Great ravel aide September 8, 2008 This item is plastic with very little padding. The dividers inside of the case are made of thin wood with a thin felt covering. Do not plan to drop this case with your PSE# packed inside and expect 100% or even 80% chance of finding no internal or external system damage. Do not ship this case or toss it in as a seperate luggage item at an airport. This case is best used for personal transport, from one location to the next. You will still need to treat this case with care, and it both looks and feels like the case it easily damaged.
Despite this, I am still glad I purchased this case. It will be packed inside of a larger case when I return home. After that, this case will be great for tossing the PS3 in the back of my car, if the need ever presents itself.
Functional but Tight September 1, 2008 I'd like to begin by stating that I've been using this case for seven months. That being said, a Playstation 3 setup begins to increase in size. More controllers, more games, more accessories. This case is perfect for carrying around the system, two controllers, power/composite cables, USB cables for the controllers, and two games. If you plan on adding things to the mix, such as extra controllers for up to four players, additional games, or other accessories such as an intercooler, USB cable extensions, cameras, or headsets, you'll quickly find yourself carrying an extra bag. I had to upgrade to a more roomy backpack in order to carry around everything I needed.
The case has protected my system (plus two controllers, two games, and cables) from some minor concussions that could have damaged the console. I wouldn't really see this case as insurance for chucking the case around, though.
The material that lines the case can be ripped very easily if you're not careful when loading and unloading your PS3. The velcro that holds the console in also scratched the surface of my PS3, but I counteract this by laying a blank sheet of printer paper before I strap it in. A thin layer of cloth would work better, but I personally needed something that was disposable.
I would recommend this product to anyone who needs to carry a PS3 around frequently, mainly for a new owner of a PS3 who doesn't have many accessories.
ok layout but crapy design August 17, 2008 well when i first got it i was happy because it was cheaper and more protective then my last case, but then i started to feel it, the sides of the case is aluminum but the top and the bottom are made of this cheap thin lair of plastic, if that would have been aluminum also this would have been a super case but with out the top and bottom being aluminum its still a good protective case but that crap plastic breaks with the slightest hit potentially damaging your ps3 witch sits right behind it. and the inside is made of this weird hard foam stuff in my opinion that should have been more thought out they should have put something a little softer inside.
